Search Result Categories
The search results are broken down into the following categories:
Geopolitical Codes
This tab lists all codes that match the search criteria. It contains relevant geographical data for each code, including location, county, state/province, and the county’s Federal Information Processing Standard Publication code (FIPS).
Rail Station Codes
This tab lists all rail station codes that match the search criteria. It contains relevant rail station data, including station name, railroad number, county, state/province, Freight Station Accounting Code (FSAC), the station’s Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC), and the county’s Federal Information Processing Standards code (FIPS).
Comments
This tab lists all comments that match the search criteria. It contains relevant code data associated with each comment, including county, state/province, and the county’s Federal Information Processing Standards code (FIPS).
Cross Reference Codes
This tab lists all codes that have cross references matching the search criteria. It contains relevant geographical data for the cross-reference code, including location, county, state/province, and the county’s Federal Information Processing Standards code (FIPS).
Filtering Search Results
To filter the search results:
- Click on the respective tab to view the results in that category.
- If the search results span multiple pages, click on the page number or the page arrows to browse through the list.
- To filter by column, click on the column header. The results list is reorganized based on the column header.
- To reorganize the column from A to Z, Z to A, 1-10, 10-1, etc., click on the column header again. The column header arrow indicates the direction in which the column is sorted. For example, on the Geopolitical Codes tab, click on the Location column header to sort by code location (i.e., town, city, village, etc.). The results are reorganized alphabetically from A to Z based on the location.
Rearranging Column Layout
To rearrange the layout of the columns on the tab, click and drag the columns to the preferred position. For example, on the Geopolitical Codes tab, click and drag the Location column so it is the first column on the left. All columns shift so the Location column is now the first column.
Filtering with Advanced Options
To refine and filter your search results even further, check Advance Options, and then click Search. The search results are refreshed, and each column header now contains an entry field to filter by specific criteria.
- Click the Filter icon next to the blank entry field, and then select the filter criteria. You can choose from the following options:
| Filter Name | Filter Action |
| Begins with | Filters the results to include only those items that begin with the entered criteria. |
| Contains | Filters the results to include only those items that contain the entered criteria. |
| Doesn't contain | Filters the results to include those items that do not contain the entered criteria. |
| Ends with | Filters the results to include only those items that end with the entered criteria. |
| Equals | Filters the results to include only those items that match (i.e., are the same as) the entered criteria. |
| Doesn't equal | Filters the results to include those items that do not match the entered criteria. |
- Enter the criteria to filter by, such as the letters the location begins with.
The results list refreshes based on the filter criteria. - Click the Clear link next to the entry fields to start over.
