The National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA)® interpretations give for-hire carriers, shippers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), and logistics partners a direct line to our experts for clear guidance on how a specific commodity should be classified under the National Motor Freight Classification® (NMFC)®. Once the NMFC experts review your information, you'll receive a formal written response detailing the correct NMFC item and description for your commodity.
Purchasing an Interpretations Request is accessed from both ClassIT+ and the NMFTA Store.
To purchase an Interpretations Request:
- Do one of the following:
- If accessing from ClassIT+ (www.classitplus.com), either logged into your account or without an account, click on Purchase and then select Classification Interpretations Assistance. You are redirected to the NMFTA Store.

Go to the NMFTA Store (store.nmfta.org) and create an account or log in. See How to register to submit Interpretation Requests for more information.
- If accessing from ClassIT+ (www.classitplus.com), either logged into your account or without an account, click on Purchase and then select Classification Interpretations Assistance. You are redirected to the NMFTA Store.
- Click NMFC and then click Interpretations. The Interpretations page opens.
- Select the Interpretation product you would like to purchase and click Add To Cart.
- Click Checkout and complete your purchase.
