What is included with the SCAC data files?
- NMFTA SCAC Data Daily Distribution Services files contain those SCACs added, canceled, and changed as of 7:00 PM Eastern Time of the present day.
- NMFTA SCAC Data Quarterly Distribution Services contains ASCII files listing transportation, providing firms with their unique Standard Carrier Alpha Codes. Also included are special alpha codes specifically designed to identify privately owned railroad cars, freight containers, and intermodal chassis and trailers. Each Data set contains a master file containing all active SCACs, a supplement file containing those SCACs added, canceled, and changed since the last quarter, and a file containing the record layout.
How much is the subscription, and can you provide API Docs?
Data product subscription options include the following:
- SCAC Online subscription is $540 for 12 months. If you purchase two or more licenses, you will receive a $60 discount on each additional purchase. However, it must be within the same transaction.
- SCAC Web Services API):
- $3,050 25K Records per month
- $6,050 100K Records per month
- $18,250 1000K Records per month

Can you please whitelist our IP addresses?
If you need your IP address whitelisted, please request assistance by emailing customerservice@nmfta.org.
Can I change my company name?
If you change your company name and the first letter is different, you will need to change your SCAC. For example, if your company name was ABC Freight and you changed it to BCD Freight, you will need a new code. If this is the case, please visit NMFTA online at https://scaccode.com/ to apply for a new code.
However, if the name was changed from ABC Freight to All Freight, you would keep the same code.
If you need to change your company name, you may email your request to customerservice@nmfta.org and include the SCAC, MC/DOT, or authority number (if applicable). A representative will verify your information and send you the updated certificate.
I cannot access my SCAC ONLINE subscription. Can you assist me?
Yes, please email customerservice@nmfta.org so a representative may verify your account information.
Why am I getting an error message when trying to create a search on SCAC Online?
There are two reasons you may receive an error message when trying to search on SCAC Online:
- You do not have a subscription to view.
- Your account has expired and needs to be renewed.
If you continue to get an error message and you are a subscriber with a valid account, please email customerservice@nmfta.org for assistance.
Can I have more than one email receive renewal notices?
No, you can only select one email to receive renewal notices.
How do I update my address information?
You can update your address information in two ways:
- To login to your account:
- Login to your account and click Home.
- Click on Code Details to expand the section, then click Edit to update with your new information.
- Click on Customer Details to expand the section, then click Edit to update with your new information.
- Request assistance by emailing customerservice@nmfta.org. Include the SCAC you wish to update along with the new address, and we will complete your request and send you the updated certificate.

How do I update my name and email address information for my SCAC Daily Distribution Service subscription?
You can update your name and email address information in two ways:
Update from your Account Profile:
- Log into your account and click Home:
- Click on Code Details to expand the section, then click Manage Data Subscription to update your new information.
- Request assistance by emailing customerservice@nmfta.org. Include the SCAC data product you wish to update along with the new name and email address, and we will complete your request.

We changed our company name; do I need a new SCAC code?

What is my Mode of Transportation?
When filling out the application, entities will enter their USDOT and MC/MX/FF number.
Entities that do not have USDOT, MC, MX, or FF numbers will select the mode of transportation that best describes the type of business they intend to conduct with the SCAC.
