| Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC®) |
Effective February 26, 2026, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA)™ will implement a verification process for SCAC applications, renewals, and reinstatements for non-Class 8 carriers and become the sole issuer of all Standard Carrier Alpha Codes® (SCAC®) for non-Class 8 carriers.
This change ends third-party reseller processing of SCACs for non-Class 8 carriers and ensures that every SCAC for non-Class 8 carriers is issued securely, accurately, and directly through NMFTA’s official SCAC application—scaccode.com.
|
If you are a reseller of Class 8 SCACs, no changes are being made at this time. Go to scaccode.com to apply or renew your SCAC. |

Why is NMFTA ending SCAC reseller services for non-Class 8 carriers?
To protect carriers and the broader supply chain from confusion and fraud. Centralizing issuance ensures every SCAC is issued directly and securely by NMFTA.
When does this change take effect?
The transition takes effect on February 26, 2026. After this date, all SCAC applications and renewals must be submitted directly through NMFTA’s official SCAC application, scaccode.com.
How does this help prevent freight fraud?
Unauthorized reseller sites have created confusion and, in some cases, risk for carriers. Direct issuance eliminates these vulnerabilities and strengthens the foundation for future identity verification measures.
Will the SCAC Verification Process Impact Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers (NVOCCs) and Waterlines (WATRLN)?
No Impact on Current Applications/Renewals Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers (NVOCCs) and Waterlines (WATRLN) will not be affected by the new SCAC Verification process. Resellers managing these MOT types may continue processing new applications and renewals without any change.
Future Guidance:
If requirements evolve, the NMFTA will issue updated guidance and timelines. Any changes will be communicated clearly before implementation. Current processes remain valid until further notice.
What happens to existing SCAC's issued by resellers?
Your current SCAC remains valid until its renewal date. When you renew, you’ll complete the process directly with NMFTA.
How do I know I'm on the official NMFTA site?
Always start at scaccode.com—the only authorized portal for SCAC applications and renewals. You can also access more SCAC information on nmfta.org/scac. Avoid third-party or look-alike websites.
Will pricing change?
No. NMFTA’s standard SCAC application and renewal fees remain the same.
