| Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC®) |
Effective February 26, 2026, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA)™ will implement a verification process for SCAC applications and renewals for non-Class 8 carriers and become the sole issuer of all Standard Carrier Alpha Codes® (SCAC®) for non-Class 8 carriers.
This change ends third-party reseller processing and ensures that every SCAC for non-Class 8 carriers is issued securely, accurately, and directly through NMFTA’s official SCAC application—scaccode.com.

Why NMFTA is Making this Change?
SCAC has long been the universal code that identifies carriers across the freight transportation industry.
To safeguard that trust, NMFTA is simplifying the process—ensuring there is one secure, authoritative source for all applications and renewals.
This change for non-Class 8 carriers:
- Ends confusion caused by look-alike reseller sites.
- Reduces the risk of fraudulent or imposter applications.
- Enhances data accuracy across the supply chain.
What This Means for Carriers
Non-Class 8 carriers can expect the following from changes to the verification process for SCAC applications and renewals:
- No disruption to existing SCACs.
- Existing SCACs remain valid until renewal.
- Future renewals will be processed directly through NMFTA.
- Only use scaccode.com for all applications.
- NMFTA's SCAC fees and support remain unchanged, but a minimal processing fee for the verification will be applied.
What This Means for Resellers
NMFTA recognizes the valuable role resellers and third-party service providers have played in assisting carriers over the years. As of February 26, 2026, these services will conclude as part of NMFTA’s transition to a centralized, direct-issuance model. This change ensures that all SCACs are issued directly through NMFTA, improving accuracy, eliminating confusion, and reducing fraud risk across the industry.
To support a smooth transition:
- NMFTA has provided FAQs and Help Center articles to help resellers inform their customers.
See SCAC FAQs: Preparation for Verification Changes for Non-Class 8 Carriers for more information. - Resellers are encouraged to redirect all customers to scaccode.com for new applications and renewals.
