| Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC®) |
Effective February 26, 2026, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA)™ will implement a verification process for SCAC applications, renewals, and reinstatements for non-Class 8 carriers and become the sole issuer of all Standard Carrier Alpha Codes® (SCAC®) for non-Class 8 carriers.
To begin the SCAC ID Verification application process, it is important to understand what types of identification are acceptable. Below is a list of accepted IDs based on the following countries:

There are two identity verification methods within SCAC for carriers: Verified through FMCSA Data means that as of the date of SCAC assignment/renewal/reinstatement, the Carrier’s safety record confirmed identification, as retrieved from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Company Snapshot website at https://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/CompanySnapshot.aspx.
